2003 GammaGathering at Gingerman
A great little trackday / get-together at Gingerman raceway. For some mysterious reason (at the time), the Delta absolutely refused to start after trailering to the track. It was so ready to ride, and yet once off the trailer there was absolutely no starting it.
Turned out to be a combination of things-
1) I have to drain the carbs before trailering. All the sloshing put a bunch of gas into the crankcase.
2) The magneto was slowly going south, and I was later plagued by a persistent misfire - eventually requiring tiny plug gaps - eventually requiring a new rotor. That solved it.
So anyhow, I believe this was the start of "The Golden Spanner" which was coined by somebody,, a gold-painted wrench and perfected by Shawn Daugherty. The person who does the most wrenching during the GammaGathering weekend takes home the spanner.
We had a lot of neat bikes there, Graham climpson was early in his uber-RG project, also had Tony Malleo, Shawn Daugherty, ERNIE BARBER, who graced so many Gammagatherings with his long-distance RG, Jeff Cada, Ken Woestman, EJ Bender, Paul Martinek and his beautiful Lucky Strike replica, Chuck Coughlin, Dirk Schuman, John Carlson, Brad Martin, Jim Comrie, and more.
